For Hopin events, do I have to create a username and password?

This depends on the event you are part of, if you have been sent an email with a button that says "Login and Join Event" then  The link in the email IS your username and password.  Clicking it will automatically log you in and take you to the Reception page inside the conference.  At that point, you are free to explore the open portions of the conference and complete your profile.
